Unexpectedly you matched up against a Grandmaster, your first move?

You are playing white pieces.

Your first move classic game with a standard time control - ?

Your first move blitz game - ?

Could be different moves , could be the same, explain why?

Stab their eye out with a bishop while screaming "j'adoube" at top volume.

Advantage, White.

As white I'd personally go with D4 in any case purely because I understand the theory better than all the other openings; go with what you know but you'll end up getting killed anyway. Plus, GM's will likely know all the openings better than you.

If I was preparing in advance though I would likely look through the opening explorer, find the least common openings played, look at all the best games played using it, learn all the theory, test it on engines and memorize all the trickiest lines and try and catch them off guard with something really outlandish and complicated. No doubt this would be more effective in faster time controls.

I'd play 1. e5. Maybe he wouldn't notice...

How?

The_Ghostess_Lola

Make a deal w/ them. Tell them that u'll resign after ur .1 e4....if they tell you that you're a major talent in chess 'cuz u made the best possible of all moves.

Everyone wins this way !

I've played Giri in a simul, went into King's Indian as black

As white I'd play d4 but of course it wouldn't matter

Just beat him.

JamesAgadir

e4, isn't the hippo for black ?

mingpro

First move would be e4 for sure since I've never played anything else in my life. From then on play modestly and offer a draw at move 10, probably.

konsolebox

I would play chess just like I always do including the same opening. I would spend more time on each move. And I would look forward to learning something after the Grandmaster kills me.

E4, E4, E4 and I have played against GMS and I play E4.

Supdok

I'm unbeaten against GMs, black both times. If white, then e4 it is.
