Unrated players

I'm having "unrated players" responding to my chess game invites.  I often abort these games, but have been accepting them lately. Would anyone please take the time to explain why these players are doing this: purpose, any advantage or disadvantage to either player, one rated and the other unrated.  It sure would ease my mind to know how I might respond responsibly and in the best way.  Thank you.

the only way to get a rating is play a rated game, so maybe they're just getting started.

VLMJ, a few things

First, if the player is "unrated" that means that they have not yet finished a rated game, so they have no ratings. That does not mean that in the game against them you are being rated and they aren't. games are either rated or unrated, and that applies to both people.

Second, These players are probably new to Chess.com, so you could be the first person they've played against on the site. They may have been playing unrated for a while, but that is unlikely, they're probably just new to the site.

If you don't want to play these people anymore, you can either set your opponents rating range to not include 1200(since they're assigned to games as if they're rated 1200) or you can change your settings to filter opponents who haven't completed at least one rated game.

Im an unrated player, fairly new at it, and was wondering how to go about getting rated.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought of this.

Robie, all you have to do to get rated is finish your first rated game. I just challenged you to one, so if you play me, once we finish you will recieve a rating.

If you don't want to play me, you can play anyone, as long as the game you play is rated. If you create the seek for the game, there's a box that asks you if you want it rated or not, if you're accepting someone elses seek, the game details tell you if the game is rated or not.
