I just finished a USCF tournament a few weeks ago and my chess rating still has not been updated. Why is that, why does it take so long?

Did you play in Charlotte? If so, the tournament has been rated.

Thanks for the information. Where did this come from?

Events are rated within a few hours of being submitted, with very few exceptions. Rated events will show on your Tournament History tab shortly after being rated, and a link to the past rated event will show on the main profile page as well. However, only published ratings are shown on that latter (main) page, and those are published on the third Wednesday of each month and become official on the 1st of the following month.

Only the current month's published rating will show on the main player lookup page, if you don't go into the actual profile.

To add to this, some tournament directors submit the results that night, but there are many things to do (for example cleaning up and and leaving the venue before your time is up) and for some a long trip home. So some tournament directors don't get around to it until the next day.

If the tournament doesn't show up in your history within a week I'd say it's reasonable to email the TD and ask about it.
