I know that this question was asked around a couple of times here, but time is changing and so does the software.
Some time ago, I was using Chessmaster the Grandmaster Edition and I loved it! It wasn't mine, so I had to give it back and I wanted to buy one. Unfortunately they translated the whole game and I'm addicted to the original english one (I'm talking about this analiytical voice over).
So I would have to buy it outside my country, which is difficult. So I thought - maybe change is good. Today we can choose: Schredder, Fritz, Rybka, Deep Junior and I don't know what else? Which one to choose?
Let me tell you, what I liked about Chessmaster:
I was learning how to play chess back then and the Josh Waitzkin academy was perfect for me. He wasn't only learning how to play chess, he also put philosophy behind it and also psychology. I loved analysys. Most of it, wasn't just shown it was also read out loud to you as if someone was telling you that. I also liked those artificial opponents against whom you could play in the "made out" tournaments. It was a lot of fun. What I didn't like? Graphics. For me it is very important to have the possibility to switch to the 3d mode. But most of the time I was using 2d mode. In both cases the sets of pieces were ugly.
For a short time I've been also using Rybka and Fritz (both demo versions). Rybka was lacking of those fireworks Chessmaster has, but it looked beautiful. Fritz looked terrible! Ugly!! (it was years ago, alright?) As far as I know, in the full version of the game, there is also an academy and in this case you have Mr Kasparov himself for a coach. Someone uploaded some of those videos to YT. I just didn't like it. It was like watching a movie with an actor you like, but the movie is just bad.
Ok. Your turn. Give a review of what you're using for our and others sake.
