FIDE ratings are supposed to be hard to get in the first place. And if everyone who had a FIDE raing had a title, then the titles would eventually get bigger than their actual names! It would be impractical and unnecessary if they were so easy to get. If you started at adult age, then it is actually bad luck and you cant really do anything about it...

I don't think the purpose of a FIDE title is to provide a goal to those who don't have a title.
It already exist.. they are called class D, C , B, A players: chess rating system .
In other words, even if you cannot call yourself a "master", any chess player that play OTB tornaments to get better elo have intermediate classes to distinguish each other and you can bet that who go to the next category is proud of that ( and work for that).
They gave us additional titles, with the "weaker" titles. You can be a weaker IM or weaker GM by having a WIM or WGM title, for example.
It's just that FIDE is inherently sexist and therefore despite our eternal battle for gender equality men can't have these titles yet.
So we don't need more titles imho, we just need equal opportunities for the existing ones.

This may be the case in the US but in Europe we don't have this. And they are not official fide titles. For us the new titels are a nice addon and with the lowest title starting at around 1100 Elo (according to the fide handbook http://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.html?id=179&view=article), there are title-goals even for the beginners.
I think kirsan must read chess.com forums, must have seen my thread and reacted immediately. For having made this proposal i should get an extra-title "The Grand Dragon of the Dark Knight Order (TGDotDKO)" or something :D

That is only for players in the Online Arena and ratings there. And you get the benefit of paying for your new title once you get the associated rating.

I said that
Titles are great goals and achievements, that players can work towards. If you seen the intensity and determination of someone's training, who is not far from his FM/IM/GM title/norm, you know what I mean.
Unfortunately they begin with 2200 ELO (CM) and this is not a realistic goal for the majority of chess players, especially if they started to play chess as adults and have a little time to train due to a fulltime job or the like.
This is why I think we need more titles, for examle:
FIDE 1600 = Initiate
FIDE 1800 = Acolyte
FIDE 2000 = Adept
...[CM/FM/IM/GM]...
FIDE 2800 = Arch Master
