Let me start this by saying I’ve been playing chess since i was a kid even did chess club.. but these players it’s matching me with are not beginners. They are some high level, highly strategical geniuses unlike anything I’ve ever seen. This isn’t my main account, i am playing on an account called YAKOINK. I literally have 45 losses in blitz and 3 wins and it’s really getting to me. I’m starting to think i have a brain deficiency. Yes, this is my first time EVER playing timed chess this week, but my friend started recently and he never went below 250. Plus he’s at 800 now.

it’s really making me question my intelligence. I did well in school and college, but this seems like a joke being played on me.. what is happening? I feel like my openings are almost flawless, and if not, i resign. I don’t know why I’m not improving. Please go through my games on YAKOINK and you will see that i constantly get like +5, +9, +11 but i end up checkmated EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I’ve been doing so much reading and watching videos and Fischer’s book and everything, but they put me into submission every time on the lower right of screen, and it usually starts with a queen that i cannot defend. I’ve learned to defend the wayward queen in 2 positions, but is this a joke? Every single beginner knows how to deal with every opening available to mankind, and their middle games are absolutely flawless? Are play plays THAT horrendous? How can i only have 3 checkmates in my ENTIRE career, one of them being an accident?

is there a brain deficiency that causes chess chokes and blindness, and is there a way to fix it? I’m really starting to feel like i might have high level autism or even worse. This can’t be true… teenage girls and drug addicts are beating me in the elo of 100.. i don’t know what’s happening. Do they really all know every position or are they using bots? 100? Really? Wtf?

You need to play on and never give up no matter how bad your position is. Chess isn't really related to intelligence at the beginner level. I think what you need is some tailored assistance. I think you need a good coach who can break things down to you. I would suggest you the book of Susan polgar named - " Chess tactics for champions"

Chess.com frowns upon having multiple accounts. They have their methods in discouraging players from having multiple accounts. Also if you're not a paid member you will be going up against a lot of cheaters and chess.con will not do anything about them unless you're a paid member

And do play the wayward queen attacks yourself. It is very important to play for these cheap tricks at the beginner level. It could fetch you some good amount of rating. Always try to set up attacks.

Every time i try it, they catch on, even people who made their account yesterday! And then my queen is just in this awful position and none of my board is developed yet so i don’t even wanna try lol. It’s certainly discouraging when everyone you know just stays above 400-600 yet you’re just stuck with these players all the way at the bottom. I can’t imagine ever making it out now that my win loss ratio is like 0.070 :/

Interesting.. i was forced to make new accounts because it wasn’t letting me join any matches after resigning a few. But on my main account now, it stopped doing that, i think because i actually signed in on a desktop.

Not hanging pieces goes a very long way below 1000 elo. Before you make a move, make sure that none of your pieces are hanging, and make sure that you're not running into an enemy attack. I went through a couple of your games, and hanging pieces is your main problem.

Also, it's recommended that you do not move your king unless absolutely necessary...

Chess has nothing to do with intelligence. Capablanca also said its mostly about practice. So, just practice!

Many people think intelligence is the key to success, but its not! The key is being stubborn! Trust me, I have two PhD's as a result of being stubborn and not giving up. On the other hand, I have several friends who I think are way smarter than me but lack dedication. They never completed their PhD.

This is your last lost game on your other account.

A few questions that are not hard:

You castled long on move 7. Do you think the king is safe there?

After 15. Qxa7 white's queen is trapped. Did it just never occur to you to look at that queen, or did you think it has an escape?

What is the point of 15. Bb4+? What if your opponent just plays c3? Did you plan to go back? Apparently not, as you played...

16. - h5?? Your bishop is attacked, and you cheerfully play a random move on the other side of the board? Was that a mouseslip or what?

Bizarrely, the same thing happened on move 23. Your other bishop is attacked, and you just push your h-pawn which has nothing to do with anything. What is going on here?

PixelatedProwler

i have advice: just dont make one move blunders, use the checklist: checks, captures attacks for you and for your opponent, and also play longer time control games

Italian-Invader

Practice is the key my friend. You need to play games untill you get familiar with like positions that you get out of your opening. My main account is lelouch_alive_indeed which is 1800 in rapid (this account is for a specific opening practice), and you'd be surprised to know that I went as low to 150, but I never gave up on chess. Start playing 1.d4 as it leads to more locked positions instead of open positions which you are likely to get with 1.e4 , try the London and watch Eric rosens videos

ChessMasteryOfficial

The biggest reason people struggle in lower-level chess is because of blunders. They make them in almost every game.

A mistake can instantly put you in a bad position, no matter how well you played earlier: if you had great opening knowledge, great positional skills, great endgame skills, whatever; a single mistake can change everything (you lose a piece or get checkmated).

So, how do you avoid blunders? Follow this simple algorithm:

While avoiding blunders is crucial, I also share a few basic principles with my students. These principles help them figure out what to do in each part of the game - the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. Understanding these simple principles is like having a map for your moves. I provide my students with more advanced algorithms that incorporate these fundamental principles. When you use this knowledge along with being careful about blunders, you're not just getting better at defending. You're also learning a well-rounded approach to chess. Keep in mind, chess is not just about not making mistakes; it's about making smart and planned moves to outsmart your opponent.

Puzzles.

The only kind of puzzles I care for are crosswords. That’s it. I don’t even consider crosswords puzzles per say which is probably why I don’t mind them. Table puzzles, even riddles give me a headache.

I tend to approach a chess game as a puzzle. I don’t know if that’s good or bad but it is what it is, but it’s a puzzle which I enjoy trying to solve. I also realize that chess (as a puzzle)doesn’t ‘come together’ in the end like a scenic picture.

I also have a low elo but I enjoy these ‘puzzles’ none the less. No headaches, just heartbreaks.

I checked some of your games, someone got 35%, I wouldn't call that flawless.

Speaking as a persistently low ELO player who has had repeated help from people rated above 1000, I get his feeling. Even among players who can't make heads or tails of an analysis board or get mentally exhausted trying to play anything other than hope chess, the difference between knowing what a fork is or even the degree to which you can demoralize an opponent by scoring an early material advantage can make the opponent feel like a grandmaster.

To OP: Yeah. As someone with high functioning autism, the combination of poor executive function, ease at which I can be demoralized, and bottom 10th percentile visual intelligence (Not all of us are Temple Grandin. Some of us have all our stat points allocated in the verbal intel department), I feel you. If it is of any comfort, my biggest break in puzzles was when I realized that 2/3rds of the lower level puzzles are about how to best put the other king in check. That's it. Puzzle rating immediately shot up 300 points.

Not true. I myself have 2 accounts and chess.com was very cooperative and approved my alt within 2 days. And I'm not a paid member but have rarely came across cheaters. And the ones I report do get banned.

Chess.com is fine with users having multiple accounts as long as you mention it to them.
