What are the requirements to be a grandmaster?

The usual path is to publish a study plan on chess.com saying what you will do then swear at people who say you can't do it....
Early prodigy, having a economic advantage, being over 2,000 eilo before 12, and 10,000 hrs practice minimum to start...

You can't be a GM in puzzles or variants. You can only be a GM in classical OTB chess. Good luck with that.

You have to start at a young age, live in a supportive community and family, have an insatiable drive to play and to study chess, and have the means to travel to top events where you can meet and hone your skills against strong adversaries. In this age of computers and Stockfish and YouTube and Chess.com, playing and studying have gotten far more efficient and streamlined than ever before, certainly. But that is true for all players now, so the rising sea has lifted all boats. Once you've reached NM by the age of 10 and IM by the age of 12 or 13, then an intensive program of study and play might get you to GM. As to what norms are, easy enough to Google that info.
