I heard that Chessmaster is a good way to train tactics, personally I just read some beginner books to learn the basics and have used the tactics trainer on this site.
What are your favorite books/software for tactics?

Books: Al Woolum's "Chess Tactics Workbook"
Hayes and Hall's "Combination Challenge!"
Lev Alburt's "Chess Training Pocketbook"
Software: CT-Art 3.0
George Renko's "Intensive Course Tactics" (1&2)

Eric, you should have a forum title: Need chess books suggestions, ask here!
would make it much more convenient for you :D

It's true!
I always seem to come across these things...maybe I should just have a giant thesis-sized list of stuff to read hanging around in another window ready to copy and paste.

Understanding Chess Tactics
by Martin Weteschnik
I really like this book, good explanations, simple - very clear examples. I read this book very quickly like a good novel.
But this book is rather for beginners and lower-intermediate players, lets say rating < 1600. My rating is a bit higher so this book didn't help me so much but anyway was a lot of fun :)

Everyone seems to say "tactics, tactics, tactics!"
So bypassing strategy and positional chess for now, I want to focus on tactics.
What are the most beneficial books and/or software you have experienced that have really helped you with tactics, (and also are fun!)
