I don't see traps pleasing at all. Catching someone offguard doesn't have quality chess. I prefer games that lead to interesting positions with best play. By "best play" I mean moves that are within a 1-3 point range, or those that actually sacrifice but maintain an equality. Just because the material count is less, the position could still be equal. Here is one from a game today.
It's not the trap itself, I don't go for traps. (I mean if someone plays the philidor defense then I try for it, but if they don't take the bait then you aren't in a terrible position.) I mean that the position (not the trap itself if you know what I mean.) is the thing that is pretty. 3 minor pieces working together beautifully is what I like, not trying to trap the person.
There is a lot of aestheticness in chess. There are a lot of ugly chess positions out there...
White is underdeveloped and black's position... disgusting, at least in my opinion. Beautiful combinations, beautiful games like the opera house game, and beautiful positions make chess beautiful.
So, all of that nonsense being said, what chess positions are the most pleasing to you guys? For me it is chess positions that have minor pieces working together in nice ways with pretty pawn structures. Specifically things like legal's mate and QGD positional (but not completely closed) openings
These positions are pretty to me. So, I want to know, is this different for every person? comment which positions you like the most and add diagrams plz.
