White, bacause it already got an advantage of 0.1-0,2 pawns.

sreeragmeppadath

white.because white has initiative in opening

ConnorMacleod_151

Black ... cos i like to play caro kann :)

then whycant you play c3 in white instead of caro-khann!

RustInTime

White has the initiative so the choice should be obvious.
However I seem to perform well with black. Being slightly defensive seems to suit me and ofcourse having the initiative also means you can make poor choices.
And so at the amateur level that initial white tempo means next to nothing anyway.

At the higher levels it seems to be more important though lately we are also seeing some nice wins with black at the super GM level and perhaps some people are slightly letting go of the "play for a win with white, draw with black" dogma.

caro kann = ??

White. Obviously.

Most of the people who think they do better as black actually do better as white anyway.

rocky0chess, the caro kann is a very solid opening against e4.

I also like to play as black, mainly because of my task would be defend and counterattack, and I do ok there.

what move is played in caro kann against e4 ? why the move is called caro kann, can u please give a brief information.

thanks.

Well, i have always been much better with white, which is normal, because i was only playing chess on yahoo where you can choose your side, and 80% of time, i played white, so i was basically clueless with black.

Howewer, i looked a little for differents openings with black these days ans since a few weeks my results look a bit better with blacks now.

I think, from experience, that some players start their "career" preferring black, since they find a defence, study it, and play it all the time. They have lets say e5 against e4 and kings indian against d4. In circa 80% of the games where they play black, they will be playing either e5 or KID.

With white, they will meet quite a lot of different things. If they play 1. e4, they will meet the sicilian, e5, french, caro-kann, pirc and alot of other crazy things.

They will get more experience with their black systems, and therefor prefer to play their system, alas: They prefer black.

But they improve. And they find out, that the black systems isn't perfect. White often gain some advantage, and they change. Suddenly, they have way more experience with white, and they don't like to be black, because white is comfortable. They begin to prefer white.

(Thats what happened to me)

White. You move first.

@ rocky0chess

caro-khann- e4 c6 d4 d5

Caro-Kann ( the opening e4 c6 / d4 d5 ) is named after Horatio Caro (English) and Marcus Kann (Austria) ; and our Dutch World Champion Max Euwe was glad with this name, otherwise it should be Kann-Caro, to be changed to " kangaroo " !

You have to play both about 50% of the time. Learn to appreciate both, and you will enjoy the game that much more.

You can also reach the Caro Kann from QP openings through transposition (e.g., d4 , c6, e4, d5).
