What could be more depressing as a chess player ?

A stand up comedian , Samay Raina , who didn't even know the C of chess until before 6 months is now rated 1650+ . Meanwhile people like me are slogging at 1400 for more than that amount of time.

I dont get what you didnt understand ?

Ya what was there in the two sentences I wrote that you didnt understand ?

I don't understand what you're trying to tell us. There is that title, then the portrait of that stand up comedian, and finally some thought about your own evolution in Chess.

Really really no offense meant, but how these three items are connected to each other is obvious only to you. We, external readers, can hardly guess and connect the dots, and see the picture of the whole.

I said that a stand up comedian who started playing chess much later than I started is at a rating which I cant imagine of reaching in the near future. And thats depressing from my point of view. Was that too difficult to understand ?

But i heard that he has an IM has a coach and i doubt he or anyone could get to 1650 in 6 months,it usually take that to get to 1400 for sure! even with a coach and 2-3 hours a day of work and play.

Btw he played 5 000 games in 6 months? i didn't play that much in 5 years?

Well, you said a chess player is something depressing, in the title. And that's what messes up the correct understanding of what you said, because of course this idea crossed my mind (that seeing an other player progress faster than you is discouraging), but since it was not coherent with the title, I could not reach a final conclusion..

Oh now I see. Maybe I should edit the title. Pardon me. My vocabulary can be weak sometimes.

Oh, I see my mistake now, I've misread the title. I've read "What is more drepressing than a chess player"

My bad, sorry.

Hmm No issues .

He was here in avril 2017 and he started to play seriously in dec 2018 so that is 2 years of experience...and he was still only 1200 in june of this year....now 1400 at blitz.

At rapid he was still 1000 the 7 of september this year..now 1600....a jump of +600 in 2 weeks....

It can be the 10 min blitz that was transferred in the rapid that made it jump?

Anonymous_Dragon

But he's playing a lot of games and practicing a lot. Where as I practice much lesser comparatively. Maybe 1/6th of the time he devotes to chess. That's the way I am going to convince myself that am not bad.

Did the site provide any additional rating points when 10 min was changed to rapid?

how do you know their claims are accurate? Either their rating or when they started chess? I wouldn't trust claims made by a comedian. Most are happy to bend the truth for a good story which is fine. I suspect all is not entirely as it seems. Dont sweat it.

Hmm you are true up to some extent. They may have been playing chess before and not let the world know about it. But going by sheer stats , his rating increased exponentially in a very short span of time. And I prefer to not doubt it.
