Pfft! Chemical unbalance! Now where does one locate that? We don't have the tools to figure that out. And don't believe Big Pharma. Lying, cheating, greedy bastards.

knightly, you can go ahead and answer that one.

He never knew his father. His mother,an angry German immigrant who felt that her children robbed her of the chance to have a decent life, abandoned him when he was 15. He had to compete in a sport that was rife with cheating, but it was the only way he could support himself. He had chronic money problems. He was predisposed to psychological problems; his biological father comitted suicide at a young age.

sport?  lol

The OP's question is "What could have caused Fischer to go crazy?".

I'm convinced that he was an unwitting test subject for MK-ULTRA and was administered psychoactive drugs, "just to see what happens."

TheOldReb

Fischer's mother was of Polish/Russian descent , not German .  She was also a commie wacko and abandoned her son when he was in his mid teens ...

Senior-Lazarus_Long

Didn't she imigeate to the US from Germany? Her husband was German, yes?

TheOldReb

Her husband was German yes and I think they were living in Germany when she decided to come to the US but she wasnt German .

Bobby Fischer was born at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Illinois on March 9, 1943.[22] His birth certificate listed his father as Hans-Gerhardt Fischer, also known as Gerardo Liebscher,[23] a German biophysicist. His mother, Regina Wender Fischer, was a U.S. citizen of Polish-Russian Jewish[24] descent.[25][26] Born in Switzerland and raised in St. Louis, Missouri,[22] Regina became a teacher, registered nurse, and later a physician.[27]

After graduating from college in her teens, Regina traveled to Germany to visit her brother. It was there she met geneticist, and future Nobel Prize winner, Hermann Joseph Muller, who persuaded Regina to move to Moscow to study medicine. She enrolled at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, where she met and married Hans-Gerhardt in November 1933.[28] In 1938, Hans and Regina had a daughter, Joan Fischer. The reemergence of anti-Semitism under Joseph Stalin prompted Regina to go with Joan to ParisFrance, where Regina became an English teacher; the threat of a German invasion led her and Joan to go to the United States in 1939. Hans-Gerhardt attempted to follow the pair but his German citizenship barred him from entering the United States.[28] Regina and Hans-Gerhardt had separated in Moscow although they did not officially divorce until 1945.[28]

"In June 1942, Regina became pregnant", and "on March 9, 1943", "Bobby [Fischer] was born at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago".[29] At the time, Regina was "homeless"[29] and shuttled to different jobs and schools around the country to support her family. She engaged in political activism, and raised both Bobby and Joan as a single parent.[30][31][32]

In 1949, the family moved to Brooklyn, New York,[33] where she could "study for a master's degree in nursing and subsequently enter a career as a nurse".[32]

She was born in Switzerland and of Polish/Russian descent... That's interesting.

SheridanJupp

Suspected them of what?

TheOldReb

It means her parents were likely Polish/Russian but she was born in Switzerland . Such complications are why people arent sure if Christopher Columbus was Spanish , Italian or Portuguese ... Smile

TheOldReb

Given Fischer's background I am surprised he didnt become a serial killer ... I think he did well given his circumstances .

SheridanJupp

I doubt Columbus was even half as mad as Robert.

RonaldJosephCote

I don't know about his parents, or Russians, or drugs, but medically, like alzthimers, one problem affects all the other problems.

ilikeflags

he shoulda been an actor

SheridanJupp

I think there should be a feature film about Bobby Fischer. And it would be great if Nicholas Cage played Fischer.
