System openings are a good way of getting to move ten with a playable game so you can get into the business stage.
what do you guys think about system openings?

yeah but why ignore the rich positions of the ruy lopez, open sicilian, catalan, and others
you just throw that all away and say ¨Today imma play the london ¨
which sucks all the fun out of the game and the best moves for black (Qb6 lines) have a massive draw rate

If you play a mainstream opening such as Ruy Lopez, you will generally play a favoured variation which is tantamount to playing a system... playing familiar moves to secure an at least equal game by move ten.

the reti CAN be a system opening if thats what you choose. but if you choose it to be one black gets equality/slight edge

thats true, but for the london stans getting this position by move 10 is all they will get, i just want to know. Doesn't it get old?

That’s what I play with both colors.
I bypass a lot of theory, studies and mainstream lines which is more fun for me because I can just go play and jump right into a playable middle game; often open games with counter play.

so because you guys have a hard time remembering what to do past move 5 you just resort to an opening that you can just mindlessly play agianst anything?

High draw rates aren’t a worry for anyone under 2200.
what do you guys think about system openings at the chess.com levels of 500-2100?
systems like the london, colle, etc
imo i dont really think they teach you to play chess well, but i want to know what the community thinks?
