A sport where two opponents alternate between chess and boxing rounds. The match ends if either player loses on time, checkmate or get knocked out.

Do you watch it? How do you feel about this sport?

I prefer chessball.

Morfizera

It's my best chance at beating a master.

And while I am not that good at chess, I am fairly confident I am better than Mike Tyson. But I wouldn't want to play him

I think it would be an opportunity for me to be thrashed on the chess board and in real life at the same time 😄

I guess if people want to play it that's up to them and that's cool - personally I play bad enough when I haven't just been getting hit in the head so it's not for me

It will probably be a few decades before a computer takes away the World Chess-Boxing title, anyway.

Apparently, you should clarify the rules in the tournament before starting.

I was kicked out when I immediately started round 1 after our game finished.  My opponent was a cry baby and claimed I sucker punched him.  He was so smug after seeing through the Stafford gambit, but he sure didn't see that left hook coming.

If you think being punched in the head will improve your chess, go for it!

The problem with chessboxing is that the chess board is too strong. It is just way easier to get a checkmate then to get a KO.

The most optimal strategy is to turtle and hide during your boxing match, then win during your blitz game. This is especially true because if your opponent goes all out, they'll be out of breath during your chess game, and blunder more often.

I think I would prefer it so that the boxing match times out before the chess match, if both players are not delaying, then the boxing match would decide draws.

ONE TIME, and that was enough for me.  I competed in a full contact martial arts tournament.  I don't see how people make a career out of being constantly hit.  No amount of money would make it worth it.

At least you still had enough sense to stop. I never engaged in boxing or other martial arts but still worry about the long term effects of being hit with a rock over the left ear at 9 years old or falling and hitting the ground a few times ages ago. I'd much rather sit in a chair and worry about the fate of some stray pawn that will just be reset to the starting position regardless of the outcome.

Kowarenai

i was a bit weirded out when i found out that it was a real thing interesting but odd

Chessflyfisher

Total nonsense.

Boxing and MMA is great for self defense and some exercise, only sport I follow. I mean you can get brain damage etc but you can be a amateur, and not be a chin forward brawler and be fine. Even for pros if you again know when to go out or again not be a brawler type it's not bad.

ChampoftheBepoCamp

MMA GOAT GSP... he is doing fine and well

DrSpudnik

The knees go first.

But I think if you are completely losing on the board you can spend an entire round stalling (as long as you have time on the clock) so that you can try your best at the boxing round, no? That's why Magnus wouldn't stand a chance (assuming he can't box), because the opponent could always stall for at least a couple boxing rounds

Chess boxing is ridiculous. Next thing you know they’ll try to combine skiing with target shooting!

My cartilage started to go when I was 18 but you just need to rest for a bit and it should grow back. The way you walk and run has a profound effect on the health of your joints. I'm 70 and can still run up hills. Chess-boxing is a bad mistake because you could meet up with someone like me.

When i do, I’ll just be sure to run downhill. wink.png

... so I believe that chess-boxing would not be very clever and, perhaps, even a bit stupid. Incidentally, would gloves and gum guards and whatever be worn?

You seem to be speaking as if it isn't a real thing. Check the link on my first post
