It is a TV series not a movie but I like it
only problem, it contains a lot of innapropriate stuff
No wonder it is rated TV-MA

The Queen's Gambit series on Netflix is easily the best portrayal of chess tournaments that I have seen. Parts are unrealistic or exaggerated. The non-chess story lines surrounding Beth Harmon are profound.
However, the series totally deserves its Mature rating for extensive profanity, adult situations and substance abuse.
I thought the show was really good I think anyone would like it even if they don’t like chess
It was a very nice series, I hope the second season will come! (it started me back to chess)

I agree with this.
In terms of what Queens Gambit has done for chess, I’m obviously happy that it’s brought a ton of new members, but there’s been a lot more cheating and trolling :/
It was not a movie I mean you could count it as a movie but in reality it is a series idk if it is a movie or series because I watch on netflix and it was series

In no scene does anyone say “checkmate” with a smug look. Except Beth’s first game ever where she falls for scholar’s mate, all games end in resignation. Oh wait, there is a mate on the board in an overhead shot during her speed chess simul that’s Morphy’s Opera Game mate, but this is just an Easter egg for chess lovers.
But no, there are no cheesy James Bond chess games where one player studies the board, then finds a mate and smugly announces checkmate.
