Lost on time.

Old analog chess clocks had a flag device which fell when time ran out.

"Flagging" is a common term in chess. It is used to denote a scenario when the player's side of the time reaches zero, so that the player loses on time.

A pity they have been replaced by newer digital clock. It was scary, yet very fun, as I observed the minute hand pushing the flag over.
