There are two clocks... Each player has its own clock. In this case 10 minute games is 10 min for each. Every time you make a move your opponents clock starts running until he makes a move. When he does it's your clock that is now running until you make your move and so on. If your clock reaches zero your opponent wins. If his clock reaches zero, you win!
10 min is usually consider too fast for beginners. Try playing 30 min, or at least 15|10
15|10 means 15 mins each plus 10 second increment. Every time you make a move you get an extra 10 seconds
I'm pretty new to chess and I've lost several 10 minute games due to "white or black won on time" when there is still time left to play?? The game stops and says opponent "won on time", but the 10 minutes are not over yet. Can anyone explain this to me please? Thanks
