Ah. The actor that played Josh was Max Pomeranc and he did play tournaments. His last uscf rating was 996 in 1997. No more after that.
What happened to Josh Waitzkin?

Ah. The actor that played Josh was Max Pomeranc and he did play tournaments. His last uscf rating was 996 in 1997. No more after that.
Sad.

he is a very good player!I learned from computer lessons. He is a GM,correct?I was wondering what happened to him!
If you mean Josh, he's an IM.
It seems you are an opponent of the effects of mass production. Sadly, steak, fruit and lightbulbs all need marketing nowadays. We live in a world where we produce more than we need, and we are fighting for the customers' money even when selling well needed products.
As to middlemen... Seriously? Every store is a middleman, selling things they didn't produce for a provision. Would you rather drive to an Osram factory for that lightbulb than buying it at the nearest mall?
As to the huge chains and bad worker treatment: i agree, it is bad. But it is not inherent to "business." The big and rich have always taken advantage of their "lesser man." Medieval serfs weren't exactly working for six figure salaries.
To sum up: I feel your pain. I have more knowledge of dishonest businessmen than I would care for. I just don't think that bashing a whole group of people is ever justified. The world is what it is, and it is somewhat presumptiuous to think you can fix it. The communists thought they could, for all the good it did the Eastern Bloc
Im against mass production of *rubbish*. Which seems very much what businesses are all about these days.
Walk into a shoe shop there are 300 varieties and *every year* they change the styles. Same with a mobile phone shop, same with a TV electronics shop... people buy them throw them out after 2 years..
Do we need a slightly new TV and mobile phone every year and do we need to buy them 50M from our house?
Walk into a grocery store 98% of the food there is junk sugary cereals, high fat, high carb rubbish.
All the energy (human and non human) that goes into it is *massive* and it is all waste. Production, transportation, marketing, selling onsite, and when people are done with it... the disposal/*rubbish* which no one ever thinks about.Yes this is disgusting.
Do we need all this crap in our lives?
Cant we enjoy a beautiful game like chess, rather than have 6 slightly newer game consoles each year with 560 games at home that we got bored of after 2weeks of play, which teams of 100s of programmers worked on for years, salesmen sold, produced millions of tonnes of plastic rubbish etc?
Do we really need to work 10hours a day so some idiot can have a slightly newer phone with some fancy luxury features that they will never use?
All this and not even to mention the whole finance game is just a giant casino... and we all know who is the winner at the casino.
Think people, please use your brains.
Well said, Monster! I, too, have a hard time finding the beauty in a day trading bot that creates 100,000 options on the same stock every day. Finance is just another game, and an unfair one at that.

He explained chess principles very effectively. He is one of the best chess players ever.
if you've seen the videos here on site with various IM/GM, you would know that anybody can explain chess principles.
he is still a good teacher though.
I think we are just all impressed because he was the first chess teacher/program that explained it so that we all understood it.

Maybe he didn't love the game enough to make it the center of his life... not every prodigy has the heart for a professional chess life.... which is sad because most of us wish we had half his talent:) life's a bummer!

Opions are like a&66ss holes, everybodys got one. Josh is living his life the way he chooses to. When he get a little older and physically slows down a bit, he may hit the chess board again. But he lives his own life and his legacy as a child chess player is was he WAS DAMN GOOD AND. MADE A MOVIE ABOUT HIM! No disrespect to young Sarwer because he was damn good but he had a different set of problems!
everyone has an opinion true enough... that is what makes a forum interesing and it is a question that interest many. I don't understand why you are mad about it. every famous people may decide how they they want to live and by discussing this we are no way judging his decision.

Saying josh would have never made Gm is like saying Lebron James out of high school would never make it to the NBA! LOL
How do you know, and why don't you say the same about every other IM?

Here are some photos of what he has been doing.

Conflagration Planet -- have you seriously spent the last fifteen months returning to this topic to reiterate the same point? I won't even contribute to the discussion. Your tenacity is simply bewildering.

Can we all just direct the discussion toward the psychological effects this topic has undoubtedly had on our friend Conflagration Planet?
Hi all
I've got Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition (excellent piece of software by the way...) and I'm working my way through Josh Waitzkin's Academy. It is really really good, I have to say. I had very little knowledge of chess and it's helping me learn the game in a big way - I would recommend it, for sure. There are also many other parts of what's called the Chessmaster Academy, including Larry Christiansen's Attacking Chess tutorials, a whole bunch of tutorials from Bruce Pandolfini and lots of drill exercices and the like. I'm in no way affiliated to Ubisoft, I must add!!! Just a fan of the software!
Now obviously I don't know the guy Josh, but reading through these posts, he's at the end of quite a bit of name calling (clot, wanker etc....). Is this a bit unfair - can someone tell me the reasons for this? I'd love to know....
Anyway, I'm off to carry on with my tutorials from our man Josh.....
Cheers all
David
