Holly's resume is very impressive. A solid background in boxing and kick-boxiing, having won world championships. Many more fights than Ronda. A classic example of under estimating ur opponent, over confidence and possible lack of preperation. I think she began to believe all the hype. (Ronda) Holly was better in fight #1 and will win fight #2. Lesson.... do not mess with ladies from Australia, they'll beat you every time. What proved her mastery? The A straight left. (Left handed). I read the final kick rendered Ronda unconscious before hitting the mat. Hope she makes a full recovery. She was 8 to 1 favorite in LV. Odds get set based on the general public's betting. Many insiders made a nice buck.
What happened to Rowdy Ronda Rousey ?

It probably has something to do with the way Dana White promotes things. There was a commercial last week in which Joe Rogan says, "There will never be another Ronda R. I thought that was as stupid as the commercial for THIS weeks fight. "THE WORLD WILL BE WATCHING"!
yeah, right

Rousey was a product of easy opponents and the UFC hype machine. She finally fought someone who could match her strength and athleticism, someone with great hands and feet, and the outcome was a kick to the neck that knocked her into la la land. The fight exposed her weakness—her standup—and she looked like an amateur lunging around the ring.
The fight reminded of me of the MMA early days and how the male sport evolved through the years. Fighters with one skill set were the norm at first, but then multifaceted fighters took over and advanced the sport.
Rousey is a judo fighter, and when she went up against someone who stopped her throws and arm bar, she had no skill set to fall back on. Holm is the next generation female MMA fighter and it's doubtful Rousey can develop the skill set to beat her between now and the rematch, if ever.
My two cents, anyway.

Dang... wish I was in Vegas before the match and had read Holm's resume. As dtownva pointed out Rousey was alot of hype. Not alot of experiance. Holm was a world champion in several disiplines.. really was a no brainer to bet part of the farm.

Her ego got her [to quote the words of several movies] "knocked the **** out".
Respect her as a top level fighter, but acknowledge that she got real cocky and finally met an opponent that took her down a peg or two.

Yes, NK. I don't think I've ever heard a woman speak - about anything - so brash. We realize it's part of the game, but she really did take it to a new atmosphere. I actually feel as tho' Holly beat her on class, only 'cuz I sense Ronda felt outclassed....as weird as that might sound.

I was gonna say, What ever happened to Jon Jones, but then I saw this; http://mmajunkie.com/2015/11/jon-jones-on-teammate-new-ufc-champ-holly-holm-goat-of-womens-combat-sports

Fixed alright. They had the stretcher, doctor and ambulance on the ready in cased she died. Anything to get a rematch.

Rousey isn't the first to fall victim to ego. Been many fighters before her who start believing they are invincible only to get taken down. At least with her descent down the ladder by a couple rungs it got to happen all at once in spectacular, bloody fashion... other fighters take their time to fall. Mike Tyson, anyone?

It seemed that everytime I turned on Ellen or other talk shows, she was a guest. I would venture to say that she got too caught up in the extracurricular activities (movie deal, book, appearances, etc.) and forgot about what got her there. And it doesn't help that everyone around you is telling you that you're the most dominant fighter of all time....man, woman, pit bull, or rooster.

Except that her skill sets were in fact severely lacking. She is a 1 dimensional fighter. MMA requires experiance with several disiplinces. Ronda won most all her matches by an arm bar. That's it.

Saying that ?....I just watched the fight on youtube. Ronda got hit on her face alot (and alotta blood came out) and Holly didn't get hit hardly at all on her face. So you're right dinner....
One question. Holly boxed w/ her hands open ! Now that doesn't seem right - unless she planned to slap her. But then right b4 she hit her, she balled up her fist and kapowee ! Those punched looked like they hurt so much !

Ronda looks for the take down to employ her arm bar. Arms are open for the rush and grabbing required. Never got a single shot as the straight left pummeled her face as you said.

I don't believe the fight was fixed. Holly's emotion after it was stopped was too real. After Rhona refused to touch gloves I lost all remaing respect for her (I lost virtually all of it after she endorsed Bernie sanders anyway) I watch a lot of UFC and after the first 4 minutes I knew if she couldn't get the fight to the ground it was just a matter of time. That straight left jab was devastating. When Holly ducked under and made her miss, that was when you could see Rhoda was outclassed and hurt, a losing proposition in any sport.

A MMA fight is fixed by a kick strike to the head and being rendered unconscious? Just watched part of the fight on utube. Those straight lefts would have ended it soon. Ronda was gassed. Left herself wide open after a stumble. When there was a take down, Holly was on top. Before a rematch, Ronda needs years more experiance, but that will never happen.

Maybe a UFC/Chess thread where all fights can have corrolations to chess maneuvers. "At the opening bell fighters came to the center of the ring and opened with a Karo-Chan manerver, but a flying head kick destroyed the wall of pawns. After exchanging Queens, a sneaky leg lock was too much for Bobby Fisher as he was forced to TAP-OUT in an early CHECKMATE"!
....luv it !
