What happens if I win a normal chess tournament on chess.com

If I win one of the tournaments you find in the "tournaments" section, do I get a free membership or something? What is the purpose of these tournaments.

There's nothing special other than a virtual medal.

If you win a normal chess tournament, you get this tournament award depending on whether or not you got 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

It's essentially a virtual medal.

However, if you manage to win a Legends Arena tournament, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd get prizes

There's currently no tournaments in the Legend club.

I won a tournament got 2nd tournament and didn't get my medal

You can put it on your CV when applying for scholarships. ;-)

You got 4th place on tiebreaks, so didn't get a medal

Chess.com ran a Leagues promotion starting in 2021 that ended last year. The goal was to get into a series of higher leagues. The highest was the Legends Club.

The structure is still in place but there are no more tournaments or prizes.
