what is a 5 /5 game

I don't understand so with out looking stupid I don't understand a 5/5 game and when you join a tournament and its a certain opening or a certain defence what does that mean.Please bye nice.I never ask question because some of you guys are so mean our rude I am not sure but you make puerile feel so stupid .So please I love to play chess but I don't understand and I don't seem to be able to find the answer any where else Thank you

5/5 means you start with 5 min per game and every moveyou make you get additional 5 sec.

It means it's a 5 minute game with a 5 second increment.  The 5 seconds are added on to your time each time you make a move.  When you join a thematic tournament it means each game you play starts from that opening, rather than from the beginning; in other words the first 5 or 10 moves have already been played and you take it from there.  See, we're not all mean or rude. Laughing In fact I'd say the vast majority of posters are pretty decent people.  I'm sorry your prior experiences in the forums have been unpleasant, but like any group we have all kinds and internet anonymity sometimes brings out the worst in people.
