chess960 is regular chess, except the back ranks on both sides are randomizrd (with the same pieces). also, the back ranks of both sides are identical. Chess960 is a very fun game and i highly recommend it, since there is no opening theory (once kasparov and svidler were preparing for a 960 match and spent 3 hours analysing the wrong position!)

Lack of opening theory makes it more interesting. GMs should play it more often.

This is true, provided that the king should be surrounded by his rooks on both sides... i.e. he can't have 2 rooks on the left, neither on the right.
