for me a good move is a move you expect in a given position, which is improving your position. an excellent move is a move you woundn't expect, the sort which amazes you.
in the opening you'll get a lot of excellent moves (keep in mind if you know basic openings) but later in middle game and end game. if you can push back your opponent or even make him lose a tempo I concider that a excellent move. AND with the obvious of if you can win a trade and come out on top. I been keeping an eye on a key part in videos and high end gm master plays. and it's the part where you make the BEST move. and that best move doesn't always have to be attacking a piece. it can just be positional move making sure your opponent doesn't backdoor you. I finally figured out my weakness in chess after all these years, now I just gotta master it. like I said, if you can push em back good for you. if you can make him lose a tempo, another win, also make sure your pieces are backed up. and your pawns win a lot of games. so be smart with those pawns.
