I thought Searching for Bobby Fischer was the only chess movie.  I hadn't seen it since I was in 6th grade, when we watched it in class.  Funny, I had rented the movie a two weeks ago, because I hadn't seen it in awhile.

The movie states  that Josh was over 1500 at 7, while the rest of the kids were around 1000.  I think his rating wasn't as inflated as chess.com's system.

i dont know what you guys are talking about. Searching for bob is a HORRIBLE movie. The guy playing pandolfini was clearly an enemy of pandolfini's and trying to paint both pandolfini and chess in a VERY negative light. The guy is a total jerk from the beginning, and probably turned off most parents who saw that movie from ever getting their kids involved in chess.

Ben Kingsley ("the guy who played Pandolfini) did a good job, I thought.  I don't know Bruce Pandolfini personally, so I don't know how accurate the portrayal was.  It is a movie based on a true story, not a documentary.  He portrayed Pandolfini as a complex character, which any interesting person is.

I dont know if anyone knows this, but the film searching for bobby fischer was once called innocent moves, tha is what it was called when I rented it from a video store when it was first released, I didnt know it changed names until a few years later.

juniah

BOND...."From russia with love"

r they actually about chess?

That was Ben Kingsley who played Pandolfini. He won best actor for "Gandhi". I prefer Chess Fever to Searching for Bobby Fischer. It was ok but I didn't think it was that great.

It was in a dozen parts, but now most of those parts are removed due to copyright claims from WMG. You can still find a couple parts but its best you watch it in full.

You can rent SFBF for less than five bucks. By the way, that movie turned on way more people to chess than away from it. Anecdotal, admittedly, but I'll bet I'm right. There are three more chess players that were inspired to learn and relearn chess in my household because of that movie.

You're not remembering the movie well. Even though it probably didn't this way, the father pulls a number out of a hat when he was asked Josh's rating. He looks at a sign and sees the number 15 and responds accordingly. As I say, it probably didn't happen that way but it's a funny scene.

Au contrair, godlessaint - I know of more than one parent who saw the movie Searching for Bobbie Fischer and encouraged their kids in chess.

By the way, after watching the movie I read the book by the same title.  It was, frankly, nothing like the movie - and in my humble opinion neither well written nor interesting...

The greatest chess movie is in the making:

FISHER

by Oliver Stone

He is the only one with balls to make a movie in Hollywood about a "jew hater"

Now that Fisher is dead, he's got the green lights.

Oh no wait, it's a Spike Lee joint, with Denzel starring.

Just kidding,  DeNiro and Scorsese are teaming up the final time.....

Even though you may found out that I am pulling your legs, one must assume something BIG is going to hit the silver screen soon and that just may be about the late great B. F.

We'll see....

Also worthy of note is the story Arg/Pol GM Miguel Najdorf....

Or why not make a movie about the great chess book: The Royal Game

Theempiremaker

'' Fresh'', this movie was directed by Boaz Yakin . It stars Samual Jackson and features a really good child actor named Sean Nelson.
