"searching for bobby fischer" is simply terrible compared to the terrific book. & it's terrible compared to real chess. (ben kingsley with his irish accent is no bruce pandolfini).
i think the best chess move is satyajit ray's " the chess players".

My post had to do with the directorship of a Bobby Fisher movie .There is an African - American grand master.

Geris game and Searching for Bobby fischer are the only ones you would watch for a reason other then "IT HAS CHESS IN IT!"
This is not 100 % correct. Personally, I love Searching for Bobby Fischer, but there are a lot of other wonderful movies, where chess in its is more than 90 %. Not all movies translated in english, and this is the only one limitation. The world is big...
I think I had the opportunity to see maybe 90 % of the movies "chess themed" in many languages. The best one (it's my opinion) is an italian movie...

It's a true story. Even the games are "really played" games. Maria Adele is a beautiful 17-year-old chess prodigy who is tormented by terrible nightmares. Although she knows these nightmares are somehow connected to her childhood, she remembers nothing of their cause, which remains buried in the past. One day she finds a letter which makes her suspect that she is adopted. This throws her into turmoil and she sets out to find her natural mother. With the help of Emilio, a young reporter who befriends her, she sets out to find her birth mother and the key to her past.
The movie won a prize in the Venice Festival. Chess players (understanding a little bit italian language) will love that movie!

I made a little search on google for a friend of mine and I found out there is an english title for the movie "la regina degli scacchi": "Check and mate". It will be presented at the Toronto Movie
Festival. I can imagine that there are english subtitles...
