I play uscf and I consider G/60 d5 is the border of classical and rapid I hear fide does 40 moves in 2 hours and 60 min (way too long)

I also feel 30 d5 is rapid and anything like g/45 should not be rapid but not classical

Bad_Dobby_Fischer

the official border for tournaments is 30 mins

25 with 5 delay counts as dual rated ( you always add the delay to the time to determine it)

From the FIDE Handbook:

B.02 FIDE Rating Regulations

1. Rate of Play

1.1
For a game to be rated each player must have the following minimum periods in which to complete all the moves, assuming the game lasts 60 moves.

Where at least one of the players in the game has a rating 2200 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 120 minutes.

Where at least one of the players in the game has a rating 1600 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 90 minutes.

Where both of the players in the game are rated below 1600, each player must have a minimum of 60 minutes.

1.2
Where a certain number of moves is specified in the first time control, it shall be 40 moves.

1.3

For a game to be rated on the Rapid list, each player must have more than ten minutes but less than sixty minutes.

1.4 For a game to be rated on the Blitz list, each player must have at least five but no more than ten minutes.

For the USCF I believe it's a secret known only to those that have purchased the latest edition of the rule book.

From what information I've gathered (without being able to look at the rule book) blitz is 5 to 10 minutes with a primary time control of at least 3 minutes, quick is more than 10 minutes up to 60 or 65 minutes, and regular is 30 minutes or more. All assume the game lasts 60 moves.

i meant USCF

don't know about FIDE

Both ends of the dual rated range can be considered a border; it is possible for USCF quick rated games to be more than 30 minutes.

USCF will rate 30 min tournaments as standard rated games. I know, I ran many, many 5-Round Swiss, 30 min. scholastics tournaments as a USCF Tournament Director in Maryland.  It was the only way we could run a one-day tournament and get a big turnout. If we went to two days, attendance would have severely suffered.

thedragon77

It is dual rated 30-65 min
