On this website a standard game is 30 minutes in length, but I know that when GM's play each other they play games that last much longer. I don't know the exact length, but I know they're longer than 30 minutes, because I know that certain games GM's have taken up to 40 minutes to make one single move. Also what is a typical blitz game length? On this website a 5 min game and a 10 min game are both considered blitz games, and you have the same rating for both. However, I remember watching a game where Kasparov played Nigel Short in a 25 minute game and it was considered to be "speed chess". I want some answers please.
FIDE currently has one official time control for major events: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.
