what is typical "club level" chess player rating?

sorry my opinion cut off. .. I've been thinking about going to the local chess club and actually trying to do the real thing live. I'm fully prepared to lose, I just hope I don't end up being totally clowned. I'm pretty streaky. I'm hovering just over 1100 and the best person I've beat was a 1250ish player. any tips or things I should know before going to an actual chess club?

Average is typically around 1500, with some players under 1000 at the bottom and some masters at the top. Big clubs may have IMs and GMs visit now and then.
It's a lot of fun though, and a good way to improve. One of my first clubs I was the weakest regular player. I showed up every week and mostly lost all my games. I learned a lot.
So don't worry about the rating, but if you're just curious, yeah, I'd guess most players will be better than you.

It's going to vary significantly club to club, but you will likely be one of the weakest players. You're probably around as strong as I was when I joined a club and I found myself as the third lowest graded player out of 30+ when I had played enough games to get an OTB rating I would highly recommend it though. I got given good advice, met some good people and it gave me the confidence to start entering weekend tournaments which have significantly helped my game. You will be a better player in a years time if you join a club, than if you hadn't. In terms of advice. 1) Do it 2) Help yourself by practicing writing your moves down in chess notation beforehand. 3) Be prepared for your OTB rating to be lower than your online (perhaps around 900-1000)
