I know there are few movies including the new one just came out (Pawn Sacrifice). I have watched only a few and was wondering which other chess movies to watch. What are your favorite chess movies?

The ones I have watched:

Watching Knights of the south Bronx on youtube right now.  Ted Danson.  Pretty good.

I watched Searching for Bobby Fischer with my wife and daughter, neither of them are into chess but they liked the movie.

Next on my list is The Great Chess Movie by Gilles Carle.  Also on Youtube.  (Yeah, that means free!!)

"Pawn Sacrifice" (2014) which is the story of Bobby Fischer (played by Tobey Maguire) is good. Also "Searching For Bobby Fischer" (1993) based on the true story of child chess prodigy Josh Waitzkin is  interesting.

My favorite chess movie is a tie between 'Searching for Bobby Fischer' and 'Knight Moves' starring Christopher Lambert, Tom Skerritt, and Diane Lane. Rest of the cast are pretty good too. It's a movie about a serial killer and Lambert plays a Grandmaster who gets caught up in it while trying to participate in a tournament. Here's a link to the full version on youtube with Spanish subs.

Revolver. It's a Jason Statham film about him having been in an isolated prison cell for many years with a chess grand-master on one side, and a master con-man on the other. The grand-master and the master con-man are playing correspondence chess and plotting a crime for when they get released through smuggled books which Statham picks up on.

Bit silly in places, but fun and thought provoking in others.

I was very disappointed by "Pawn Sacrifice" and "Searching for Bobby Fischer." I understand that the main audience knows nothing about chess, but that's really no excuse for the poor chess content.

IMHO the best chess movie is still "Brainwashed" (1960)
