What is your favorite variation of chess?

I really like recruitment chess. You and your opponent take turns spending up to 40 points on the pieces to fill the back rank. Standard chess pieces have their standard values, like 5 for rook and 9 for queen. There are also special pieces that have different point values depending on how they move. For instance, there’s a piece that can move like a knight or a king and it costs 4 points. It’s cool because there is strategy in the pieces you choose, where you place them, and how you move once the game starts!

Gravitational chess !! Only pawns can sustain their weight, all other pieces fall back after moving.

I actually like Gothic. And my own invention, poker chess: before your oponent moves, you write down a prediction of what will be played - if correct, you win whatever piece was moved.

if there's only two pieces to move it would be easy
Bughouse is okay, I like suicide better.
Atomic and crazyhouse are just weird. Rubber chess goes on forever.
I like Lucky Chess too, where you roll dice.

theres also alternate chess. you move once, the your opponent 2 in a row, then you 3 in a row, and then him 4 in a row, and so on until it ends.

Bughouse is cool
I also like the Russian chess (each piece you grab from your opponent costs you drinking amount of alcohol relative to that piece's strength). Lasker played that variant once against Maroczy - he chose 1.e4 e5 2.Qh5 Nc6 3.Qxf7+!! Maroczy had to drink queen's equivalent and lost the game

I like Chesckers and Gothic Chess at: http://grandgames.net/en/
