What movies are based on the concept outlined in the movie Revolver?

"You only get stronger by playing a stronger opponent."

I need movies that are based on this concept. I know it came from the movie Revolver starring Jason Statham. But I don't want to rewatch it over and over. Even movies that are dated back in the black and white era are viable. 

I don't know what this has to do with chess (I didn't see "Revolver") but a number of movies have this Nietzsche quote:

Conan the Barbarian (1982)

Conan works. But do you know of any other movie that's more sophisticated and intellectual that's based on this concept? 

You can search the movie site IMDb for fragments of quotes like that. Here's the search string that allowed me to find that quote, for example:

It's not a reliable quote search-engine as I entered ""you only get stronger by playing a stronger opponent" it didn't even come up with Revolver. thanks anyway

You can also search IMDb by keywords. You might try keywords like: opponent, perseverance, apprentice, etc.
