What the heck is going on with ICC?!

I play mainly on Chess.com but occasionally will bounce back to ICC to read some articles or check on some friends that play there.   I got an email from ICC stating.....

When was the last time you saw something new in the chess world?

Well, a brand-new ICC is coming, and we want you to be part of it.

Watch your in-box. You will have the opportunity to be among the first to experience it.

So I tried to load in today and it doesn't remember my username and password.  Main page looks nothing like what the old site use to be.  I went into it as a guest to do some looking around.  Not sure if I like it.   Would like to hear from anyone on here that knows anything about the changes.

Thanks,

Jay

ChessBooster

They redesigned the site and created new play zone. As I see for now it's parallel to the old site which still runs through their clients.

I tested it yesterday on first day and i like it very much. It is simple , but very stable, I saw no bugs, and I saw some very sound names from GM pool visited and played there too. I hope they ll put some more functions by time, generally i like it.

@ChessBooster I was able to log in with my old username and password today through the website. Seems to work fine with a very simple look, but also very stable like you said. Going to check in with the site in a month to see what other feature will be add.

BadManX

did not like new ICC site at all, I did not see a friends list, too simple, not enough features

Falkentyne

The big thing is you no longer need to PAY money to play rated games. Their subscription model was totally outdated. The only things that work with that old model are Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft.

They still need to allow National Masters (NM) to get premium, just like chess.com allows.

I was actually reading your article and found some really interesting information. The thing is quite clear that I just want to thank for it. SummitHealth PatientPortal

is that Falkentyne from the ICC 15 minute pools/ or is it standard time controls? LOL!

I did not get to see much of the new ICC but did see a glimpse from what seems to be the web server. it looked well. Hopefully it becomes a lichess!

Do they still use the Blitzin interface or did they finally switched to a browser based platform like chess.com and lichess?

Tactrics64

The play interface is too laggy. Just tried some bullet games. Totally unplayable.

I guess there will be more features to come like tournaments, etc. I hope to see some kind of friends list too.

blitzin and dasher stil work, as i see new site is independent to the 'old' one

ChessBooster

no, as I see, no more connectivity through clients. seems there belong to history !?

Awaresi

I hope to play against some good opponents there, I just registered for an account on there with a pretty nice username snag.

Jenium

Yeah the browser version looks pretty dysfunctional. Haven't tried to connect with Blitzin... Good old times.

Charlie101

I needed to log on to the old blitzin interfece because I wanted to review repertoires from titled plauers. I will need to wait until they make it functional again.

Yes, I played it several times. It is extremely clunky especially if you like playing bullet. I hope they significantly improve the interface!

OldGeezerJayRoy

I see they have "bots" on there now. Played a few which were okay.
@Charlie101 Can you still use the old Blitzin interface or are we stuck with the web base interface?

It's quite apparent that there are many features missing from that new ICC overhauled website, but it will eventually come, I suppose with time ahead. ICC is very nostalgic and I hope it gets better and incurs more competition in the chess ecosystem.
