He was 2600+
What was Yasser Seirawan's highest ranking?
I just looked up the fide list for july 1990 (just a random month in what would be his prime) and he was 10th so it would be somewhere in the top 10. Too lazy to look through all of them though.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't find a way to look back through FIDE lists. But now that I know you can I'll keep digging.

His highest was 10th according to his chessgames profile I seem to recall, with a rating high of 2635. I know my chess friend the Karl played him near his peak, will post the game because I haven't seen it yet and I just got the gamescore.

So this archive list I'm looking through only has records for January and July of each year. He won the US Chess Championship in 81 but was still around the 30s. He eventually climbed up to tying for 12th in the world with Viktor Korchnoi (who, interestingly enough, was beaten by Yasser 2 years prior. So Korchnoi invited Yasser to train with him in Switzerland while he prepared for his world championship match against Karpov). Six months later he was tied for 11th but six months after that he managed to drop 80 rating points which took him to 46th. That's a crazy fall. He finally made it back up 4 years later only to take another fall in a short amount of time.
Finally in 1990 he went from 31st place in January, to 10th by July after a 40 point bump to his rating. Thank you, danfer.

Maybe you already found it, but you can google e.g. "fide rating list January 1990" and you'll get a few different sites that will show you in case you wonder about similar rankings in the future.

I think Kasparov always had respect for Seirawan because he was one of the few players that played to win against him in the old days.
Yasser is an absolute genius! Not only because of his high rating, but because he can actually explain his thought process to others, teach what he knows, and he's SO LIKEABLE and friendly and sweet. These typically aren't the qualities of super-GMs who are either all jerks, or have no time of day for the mere mortals with low ratings, or cannot explain their thoughts to anyone unless that person is also a super-GM. I wish there were more people like Yasser in chess (and in the world, in general).
I am having trouble finding this information. At the peak of his career, what was Seirawan's highest ranking in the chess world? I know his peak rating, that's easy enough to find. And I know he was listed as being in the top 100 in the world as recently as 2007. And he's currently 193rd in the world. But I'm trying to find his highest rank throughout his entire career, in relation to the rest of the world's players. Help?
