Early 19th century?
What year was chess invented?

Chess was invented in 1962 by the CIA.
In 1959 the U.S. and Soviet Union were locked in a mortal cold-war battle. The U.S. decided the best way to fight the soviets would be through covert actions.
So, in 1960 they began research how to screen possible candidates to take part in these convert actions. They determined the best candidates would need specific qualities.
In order to screen candidates, they came up with chess to test their logic, ability to adapt to ever changing circumstances and their resiliance under pressure.
However, by 1965, they found too many of the candidates were becoming focused on the game rather than the work the CIA needed them to do. So chess was dumped as a screening tool.
In 1972 researchers came across chess and began playing. The rest, as they say, is history.

It was invented by Christopher Columbus in 1492 on his voyage to discover America.
Are you saying he KNEW he was going to discover America?

But for all the rules (as printed on one sheet that comes with a children's board game) maybe 200 years? This would include things like en passant, promotion, and stalemate.
For most of the rules, that would indeed be true, however chess wasn't really standardized or codified until the last quarter of the 19th century, about 150 years ago, at the earliest. Up to that general time some places still employed free castling and Black often went first as there were no rules preventing it. It was the development of international tournament play that spurred the codification process. We have players like Howard Staunton, Carl Jaenisch and v.d. Lasa to thank for much of that work.

The precise origins of chess have been lost to antiquity, but by around 600 AD a game pretty much equivilent to chess, called shatranj, was being played in Persia. From there it spread into Europe via Greece, Spain and Russia. The modern game we play, with its specific pieces and movements, was pretty much set by the year 1500.
It evolved over time. The name refers to king shah, chatria is a caste (warrior caste) in india meaning little king. Hence it is the game of kings.
It is a game the aryans brought with them when they conquered india in the BC.

That was his intent all along. Trying to find India was a cover story.

DAMN!! I knew it. It seemed pretty unlikely he would be able to convince a queen to give up all that money just to find India by going the wrong way.
Maybe RJC will have some info about this.

Yes, someone from 600's said this is the exact date and time of today since we are incredibly accurate in meausirng time and said I know this board games is different from the future board game from now but I know it will be called chess for no apparent reason and I wrote this of course in a language that scientists in the future can figure out and because it is incredibly important to mark the exact details of a board game so 1500+ years in the future people can wonder if their future board game came from mine. How do I know this? Just because
Just joking, in all seriousness, they're really not sure of the time most estimate it to be in the 600's I believe but that would be a one that beared similitaries and evolved into chess

Indians were the first mathematics and thats a proof they could invent a game like chess.I heard chess was invented in india 5000 years ago.
There is an old indian story:

This link doesnt say the exact story:

I think chess was invented in india and after that, all the other games like checkers, go... got inspiration from chess.

I heard chess was invented in india 5000 years ago.
There is seriously nothing that supports chess being that old. 1,500 years maybe, but nothing near 5,000.

What supports chess being invented in 1500?
Who knows...Maby your wrong (or me)

Not invented in 1500, having been played for 1,500 years. As for what supports it - a wealth of literature and pieces dating back that far. But there's no evidence so far that supports chess having been invented 5,000 years ago.
Some say in 1400, some say in 1500, some say 5000 years ago, some say more than 5000 years ago, some say its the first board game...
Witch one is right? Is there a proof (Its the antiquest chess board foun, it says it in an old book...)?
