What's a good set of noise-blocking ear plugs to wear at tournaments

I'm easily distracted by noise, so I'm looking into getting some sort of earplugs to wear at tournaments. Some people have recommended the full-on noise-cancelling headsets, but I feel like one would look very strange, putting those on and taking them off at tournaments. Others use the smaller ear plugs - any suggestions?

The best would be plugs with a custom design for your ears, but I guess they must be too expensive.

I find the best earplugs, in terms of comfort and noise reduction, are the beeswax ones from earplugsonline. Then, I don't play tournaments.

I keep a pair of these in my tournament bag. Work great, best noise reduction of any earplugs I have ever used. Oh, and by the way, I use these every day at work out on the very loud ramp for my preflights. SMOKEY2531 Can you use the Bose noise cancleling earphones with silence (no music)? Hows does that work?

NativeChessMinerals

You don't want it "completely" silent anyway, then you can hear you breathing and sometimes heart (if you're excited). You also hear whenever you body is bumped into, like when your elbow touches your abdomen, you will hear a thump.

I am using EAR Defense High Fidelity Earplugs .A solidly-built aluminum carry-case suggests that this set of high fidelity earplugs is best suited even for those touring musicians who will be on the road for quite a while. Even when it’s all packed-away in its screw-on carry-case, it’s compact enough to fit perfectly in your pocket, but you can also attach it perhaps more conveniently to your key-ring.

I've used simple foam ear plugs at tournaments.

The other option is to train in a noisy environment. You know, if you go the shut-out-the-noise route, when you can't control your playing environment you just may go to pieces when there's a little bit of noise.

There was an old article in Chess Life where a chess player was visiting Japan and he was guided to a Go tourney; He and his guide werer talking right by the games in progress and he wondered to his guide if they were disturbing the players. His guide scoffed and said you could set off cannons, their concentration was so great (and expected to be so).

Still, it's so much nicer to not hear your opponent belch burp sniffle etc., as well as the other gentlemen near you.
