What's so wrong about checkers?

Yes. Whoo. Checkers. Fun. Really.
I dislike checkers. it is simplicity, and while it is fun, i like having something more challenging. But for those who want something challenging and can't comprehend chess, there is always checkers.

I used to think checkers was simple too , until I played some really good players and even tried a tournament many years ago. Play some tournament players and see how simple it is.

Really? How many rugby players get killed playing rugby? A classmate of mine was killed in football practice when I was in high school.

What is this supposed to mean?
umm... no. Try not to get side tracked with your own ignorance. I appreciate both games truthfully. But, back to the topic. I don't enjoy checkers. It's too simple and too booring. You can't exercise or show mind power as well as you can with chess... but then again I don't play checkers too often. In my opinion, there is no comparison. But it's a matter of preference, no offense to the game.

Checkers is less sophisticated, but still enjoyable. I like both rugby and american football. I don't think one is any better than the other.
Browsing the forums and other content here on chess.com, I noticed quite a few derogatory comments about checkers. Whilst I do realise that compared to chess, checkers lacks the complexity and tactical depth, this seems a bit uncalled for. True, playing checkers will not help you grasp the opening theory or mating patterns or improve your tactical vision. You certainly can't use any chess tactics in checkers either (I tried, you really can't
), but playing a game or two may be a good thing, especially as a scholastic tool.
It helps in training a players psyche to think in some important chess concepts: that the nominal value of a piece is relative and changes based on it's position, how sacrificing can help improve your position, that even the best attack can fail if defence isn't given attention etc.
