Tactics Trainer!

TheHappyFatVegan

This site has quite a bit to offer for you.

If you put your cursor over Learn at the top of the page it will give a drop down box of options

Take some time to check each out and depending on how new you are you can decide

which is best for you

Good Luck and welcome!!!!

A very good tool to learn tactics. Then when you are used to some of the themes you can use the tactics trainer here to train tactics

Go over your games, really look at them for improvements - see where you went wrong. Play with a plan, develop your peices - always enjoy it, have fun..

here you can find links to a lot of chess blogs with improvement plans (most of all based on tactics-study) and take a look at the Novice Nook column at chesscafe.com!

that link chesstactics.org seems very nice! You can learn a lot there!

Good Luck!

I've got a few books they are all pretty usefull. They have stuff in them like forking and pinning the basic stuff, quite interesting too.

I have this eletronic chess set at home, it's like a chess board and you press down on the squares that you want to move from than to than you wait about 5 seconds and it goes beep, beep and then the computer lights up the LED's that indicates the squares that it wants to move from than all you have to do is move it. Is this good practise? P.S. it does have different lvls.

There's an "errant" html tag after the link.

Correct link is:

I had one of those chess sets that your talking about. It had 72 levels, obviously, there was little difference between 52/53, but in leaps of 10 there is a noticable difference. It does get to a point where it is limited, I'm not the best at chess but I could eventually do the hardest level. What is good though, is that on the harder levels the machine took about 5 minutes to make a single move, this gets you into the good habit of not speed playing, really looking at the board at the different possibilities. Speed chess is fun, but you've got to put in the ground work and do the slow stuff first.

Maybe there are people looking at this and thinking - only 5 minutes looking for a move - speed demon.

I just started playing in January and had the same question.

I have made 5 things my beginner maxims, and I am playing better online...

1.) Never lose the fun of playing chess.

2.) Spend $20 at Amazon.com and get Chessmaster 10th and go through the great tutorials.

3.) Do puzzles / problems to help you see the board better: http://www.chessproblems.com ; http://chess.emrald.net/index.php ; http://chesstempo.com/ ; http://www.chessproblems.com/.

4.) Watch some good games that are commented on: http://www.chessgames.com/index.html ; http://www.chessvideos.tv/ ; and the ones on this site.

5.) Find a good book that covers all the aspects of chess - perhaps The Complete Book of Chess Strategy by Jeremy Silman, or Weapons of Chess by Pandolfini.

6.) Email me - we'll talk. decenso@chess.com

OK i got a new question.

I've been on the web site www.chessproblems.com and i have been doing puzzles around 800... For someone like me who has only been playing chess for 2 weeks is this good or should i get a move on because this is a poor effort?

Also by what time would i be able to 1000 rating problems moderately quickly?

As well is doing chess problems good for my chess and whats the best way to improve my chess problems. I'd appreciate another reply ASAP... (tiget kid is allready proberly on it)
