What's the deal with Mittens??

These days, every Youtuber is getting hyped by this new bot. From what I have seen, it is just a typical strong engine with a cat picture that will crush us in 99.9% of all games (like all engines). 

What is the hype about?

You want to know what the hype is? BASICALLY NO ONE CAN BEAT MITTENS!!!! Hilary even made a video about it and he LOST to Mittens more than once. And the weird part is that not even chess.com can beat Mittens. I tried using assisted mode and she still SOMEHOW manages to beat me up

That a full-power engine crushes us humans is nothing new?! If you like to get crushed by an engine, you could already do so 10 years ago

Yeah, but this bot is probably better than the most advanced of all the bots that have come out in chess.com. Grandmasters would be able to defeat those advanced bots but they have failed in defeating mittens

People fell for a stupid kitten picture is whats the deal with Mittens really.

Having an unbeatable bot doesn't seem that inventive to me. Creating a weaker engine that imitates human play is much harder to set-up than an engine that's just supposed to crush human players with full power

I would say the hype doesn't come from what it really is but from how it is perceived as. It's a cat, it's name is Mittens, it has a proposed Elo rating of 1, and says a lot of goofy and ominous stuff mashed together in its dialogue. In reality it is just a powerful engine disguised as an interdimensional cat which looks ridiculous, but then again ridiculous is all the rage in our day and age.

So if Mittens is SO hard to beat then why is his Elo 1?

By the way, I'm a chess YouTuber and I have not done any video on Mittens and do not plan to. You're welcome It is a topic probably overdone, but I can understand why many would want to jump on the bandwagon.

Youtubers wouldn't care if it weren't for all the kids caring. They pretend it's an interesting bot to get more views.

Beating mittens with an engine is easy. It regularly makes less-than-best moves, and maybe 10% of its moves are just bad (by engine standards).

I agree. During the game review Mittens had a few inaccuracies.

They kept altering Mitten's strength, but even on day 1 before that nonsense, it was easy to beat Mittens with stockfish.
