whats the difference between a sacrifice and a gambit?

I think that they are the same because in a sacrifice you sacrifice a piece/s to gain a powerful attack and even checkmate similarly in a gambit you also sacrifice a piece/s to get open lines, powerful attack or checkmate. So tell me your thoughts below that if you think they are the same or are they different.

The only difference is that  gambit happens exclusively in the opening, while a sacrifice can happen at any point of the game

Gambits are giving up material to speed up development and may take a while to actually give a noticable advantage. Oftentimes, the gambited material can't be held and the player will have to return it or risk losing more.
