Can anyone answer the question and how it relates to Carlsen and Anand?

In tournaments, you have a different opponent every round, so different styles, strengths, openings, etc.  In a match, it's the same opponent game after game, and if you lose your opponent is a full point up.  Since you can't get points from playing and beating a lower-rated player (like in a tournament), matches are more like slug-fests, where you have to grind the other guy down.  This could favor Carlsen (youth and energy) as well as Anand (wisdom and experience).  Since MagMax hasn't played in a match before, and he's going up against an opponent with extensive match experience, there is some doubt about whether he is mature enough (mentally/emotionally/spiritually/whatever) to succeed.  MagMax has more than enough strength and skills to win, but can he overcome Anand on his home turf?  I can only answer that accurately sometime in December.  I hope this helped.

Tournaments tend to favor player with an aggressive style, those able to win lots of games even at the cost of some loss. In match play, you need only to beat one opponent, so you can avoid some risks.
