What's the max amount of queens you can have on the board without stale/checkmate?

Sort:
Lc0_1

Let's see how high you can go...

Rules:

1. Both kings have to be on the board (black and white no more than one of each color)

2. No pieces other than the two kings and the queens

Yes

Put a white king on e1 and black king on e3. Then fill the board with queens. I can do 40

In practical play, you don't want too many.

A player I coached on a high school team became one of the best players in our county school tournaments - of which I was USCF tournament director.  In one game against a newbie, he decided to torture his opponent who didn't know enough to resign and he kept adding queens without trying to mate his opponent.  He got up to around 6 and stalemated!  His face was green the rest of the tournament! I lectured him about bad sportsmanship and he never did it again.

But it has to be 9, because you can only have up to 9, right? 8 pawns and one queen. Unless you want to have as much as possible...then...I dunno.

PancakeRaichu

No. Without checkmate  or slatemate

Josh-Oh-Gosh

47 looks ok, but if we allow more pieces we can have something like
