When should moving the Queen start?

KeSetoKaiba

Different openings can move the queen out at different times and sometimes it is okay. The problem with bringing the queen out so early is that you aren't usually sure it "belongs" on that square. Usually, you'll be better off developing your knights and bishops and castling and then the queen is the last piece to develop so that you "connect the rooks." This is a generic guideline though; it isn't a rule to follow blindly.

Here's a video of mine which might help give you a little insight on how one side may choose to exploit the queen developing too early:

Once your knights and bishops are developed and your King is castled, look for opportunities to bring your Queen into the game. This usually happens around moves 10-15 in a typical game.

I think probably when you finish castling and developing your pieces and you should do it to either attack or join the two rooks

The queen has to be developed and start attacking enemy pawns within first 5 moves so it has to be moved on the 3rd move

Let’s say, “Generally Speaking…” After all, you’re the King, right? You can do what you want. If you’ve got a reason for your most valuable piece to be gallivanting over the board before you’ve activated your other pieces or castled, then go right ahead.

But, it ought to be a good reason. Cowardice comes naturally to a Queen. There’s nothing but the other Queen to trade evens with. Everything but the King can threaten her. The queen’s main ability is to cast influence over a lot of squares. This ability is improved the more the board is depopulated.

Another thing that occurs is that it runs contrary to the rules of good opening practice, particularly, “Try not to move a piece twice in the opening”. There’s a reason for this rule. If I can force you to move a piece, with a developing move That’s like two moves I’ve gained on you. My move and the move where you replaced your threatened piece instead of developing yourself. If you put your Queen out there early, bet the farm I’ll try to chase it while developing my pieces.

I think they are using dark mode on chess.com and their text looks more visible to them and other dark mode users.

Exactly. I see everything she wrote on here

Can you take a screenshot of what her text looks like on your computer?

I could, but you can just switch to light mode in your chess.com settings, look for yourself and then change back to dark mode grin.png That would be faster lol

Cymbiotika

Who uses light mode?

Cymbiotika

This isn’t the 80’s

I do. I'd probably use dark mode if the background image didn't show behind the chess board in live chess. I like to focus on the game, so I use light mode.
