I believe it started up in Persia, but I'm most likely wrong.
Where did the Chess originated?

I heard that it was in India. Originally there was no castling and the pawns only moved one square on their first move, hence the origin of the names of the King's Indian, Queen's Indian etc. When the game moved to Europe castling and pawn moves of 2 squares on their first move were added to speed the game up.

agreed

The map is grossly in error. Look at the 1300 in Spain, for example. Chess was introduced in Cordoba in the ninth century, reputedly by Ziryab.
Origins in India is the best guess, and is the opinion of James Murray, explained in History of Chess (1913), the standard work on the subject. However, China is a possibility, and the hypothesis has its advocates.
I think in India.
