Which chess computer should I get?

I want a chess computer for xmas, but I dont know about brands. Im around 1400 ELO club strength. Some of the magnetic ones look cool (that move by themselves). Preferably the board should not be too small, and the set shouldnt be too expensive. Anything you can recommend?
A tablet loaded up with chess apps would be more useful IMHO and probably cheaper. Oh and the magnetic ones that move by themselves are expensive. Ebay usually has a few for sale though so good luck with your search.
