WHICH COUNTRY DO YOU THINK IS BEST AT CHESS?

Maybe it is still Russia overall, but I am glad that chess has become more international. When I was young the USSR produced almost the entire chess elite, while also rans Jan Timman (NED) and Nigel Short (GBR) represented the Rest of the World. Chess players with an immigrant background also seem to be doing exceptionally well these days. Must be something in the upbringing.

Russia has probably produced the highest number of GMs in history, but the US has the highest number of top players playing under their flag. According to the FIDE top 100, there are 13 players playing for the US, and only 5 playing for Russia. China and India both have 8.

Yes. We are considering data and Russia has won chess Olympiad until they were participating.
@MrKoovy when I go to fide official website this was the result

@atharv8849, this is the page I was referencing, which specifically looks at the top 100 players: https://ratings.fide.com/top.phtml?list=men

There's also this page that lists the average rating of the top 10 players from each country's federation.
1. US -- 2728
2. India -- 2692
3. Russia -- 2688

Norway at this point lol
but looking at overall and general number of players - yeah agree Russia probably top1

gotta be India and Russia if you think of most good chess players, and probably still Russia when it comes to good chess players at a ratio to the general population
garry kasparov, anatoly karpov, boris spassky, alexander alexhine, mikhail tal and vasily smyslov are from the ussr. garry used to be the best chess player in the world. his highest elo was 2851
vishy, prag, vidit gujrathi, gukesh d and arjun erigaisi are from india. vishy's highest elo was 2800
bobby fischer, wesley so, hikaru nakamura, and paul morphy are from the us . fischer's highest elo was 2895
so, i think that settles it. even though norway currently has the best chess player (magnus carlsen) i think us is 1st followed by ussr, not russia at 2nd and india at 3rd places.
THANK YOU

This is open, not just women. If you click WOMEN, the top three are China, India, and Georgia.

I made a spreadsheet comparing FIDE's list of titled players per country against each of those country's population:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13z0VXOExUzNRjUX4TTgEkKkBMKx8FjjekqlDwu_EcyM/edit?usp=sharing
Obviously there are several countries with very low populations that make their way to the top of the list, but you can filter by total population to get a ranking of larger countries.
Hello guys I have one question to all of you. WHICH COUNTRY DO YOU THINK IS BEST AT CHESS Please post your opinion in the chat. Mine is Russia
