Which nootropics/supplements do you/can you take to play better chess?

I take bacopa monnieri and it helps.

Can I get suggestions for other substances that might be of help?

Thanks in advance.

The key components are L-Tyrosine and L-Phenylalanine. Great for improving mental focus.

How long have you been taking this? Does it survive the test of 'tolerance'? i.e. do the effects stay or go away after a week or two. if you answer positive then I will buy this and report back my experiences after trying it.

Thanks.

I've tried L-Tyrosine in isolation and it worked great but then stopped after a week. It is a precursor of dopamine and every chemical that enhances dopamine you get a tolerance to, in my experience.

Well said, Destroyer_Mark_1420, however, I study too but to give myself an edge I am looking for supplements as well.

Yeah I'm going to go with the healthy does of studying.

Bacopa monnieri, commonly known as water hyssop, is an herb often used in Ayurveda.

Supplementing Bacopa monnieri has been shown to improve cognition, by means of reducing anxiety. It is also reliable for improving memory formation. Though effects of this nature are usually studied in the elderly, Bacopa monnieri appears to affect young people as well, making it a useful nootropic.

Since Bacopa monnieri is also an adaptogen, a relaxed person might experience a lack of motivation to work after supplementation. Theoretically, pairing Bacopa monnieri with a stimulant would ward off malaise, but this combination has not been tested.

Bacopa monnieri interacts with the dopamine and serotonergic systems, but its main mechanism concerns promoting neuron communication. It does this by enhancing the rate at which the nervous system can communicate by increasing the growth of nerve endings, also called dendrites. Bacopa monnieri is also an antioxidant.

I have used it for 4 months and i always feel a noticeable difference if i take a couple of capsules in the morning compared to if i don't. I would recommend giving it a try, let me know your experience if you do.

I have some bacopa monnieri powder that i use in my morning smoothie sometimes, but i haven't felt a noticeable effect. Maybe it is more subtle?

Best response!

I have rich experience in supplements. Tolerance is a real problem. I recommend bottled chicken essence to combat mental fatigue. A full body massage the night before an important game helps.

Cool. I'll give it a try and then post here again.

I do not encourage others to try this especially if youve never taken brain meds before. I take some other meds too so this kind of balances things out.

I take dark chocolate.

Books. I take books.

Well I hear blueberries can help concentration.

Larger? What is this? The 2nd grade? Something stronger is needed for chess.

If caffeine did not appear on the first page of this discussion, it would be a travesty.
