Which side would you rather start on? White or Black?
I would prefer Black in the Sicilian Dragon, but I won’t be able to play for about 2 years.
White wins 5/9 of GM games and maybe more at lower levels. Early in my younger days, I would play in an OTB tournament and go 2-0 or 2-1 or 3-0 with White and 1-2 or 0-2 or 0-3 with Black. because I didn't realize that good defense moves aren't enough: you have to make threatening moves as Black and plan to counterattack.
Consequently, it's obvious to me that White is what I prefer because I can make more threatening moves and try to set up attacks more easily.
It doesn't matter which side you start on as long as you switch to the winning side just before checkmate happens.

Well, white is up a tempo by default
I like to open with 1 e4.
I prefer black by a slight margin.
White all the way
What I find interesting is when I teach young people who know only the basics of moving the pieces, they prefer to play with Black. I think this is because they can simply react to White's moves. They don't really know what to do when playing White.
