Chess is such a complex and skilled game and whoever made it must have been a genius. The only question is who invented chess? Where did it originate?

I am not sure.  I believe the game is centuries old.  I think I remember someone saying it came out of India.

I don't think we can tell who invented it but where it was invented can probarly be found somewhere on the internet, I might take a look

Check out the book "The Immortal Game".  Interesting read on the history of chess.

If you look at the Book, "Bruce Pandolfini's Ultimate Guide to chess", the first chapter explains different view points on the creation of this marvelous game.

What you also have to remember is that no one person just "invented" the game. It has evolved over centuries, with incremental changes to the rules (extension of the Queen's moves, castling, en passant etc. I think the oldest known version is Chaturanga, which originated in India is regarded as an ancestor of chess and shogi. Wikipedia has a decent, if short, article, including the rules if you want to try playing it.
