Who invented the chess game.

I don't know (I don't think anyone else does either) an individual who invented the game of chess. However, it was invented around the 8th century in India, and modified by the Arabians and Persians. But the modern version we play today was the medical Europeans' version.

Thanks

It is unknown who exactly created chess. But it is known that the way we play it nowadays - we call it Modern Chess - is derivated from Chaturanga, that appeared +/- 1,500 years ago in India. European people liked it and decided to remove the elephant to put the bishop, thus creating the European chess, the modern chess.
tl;dr. There was a long process before the adoption by the european people and the substitution of the elephant.

It depends what you consider chess.
For exampe in China, chess consists of an Elephant and a river.
It's all very complicated and has been adopted by many places.

None of the answers in this thread are correct. For the actual answer, as someone already suggested go to www.wikipedia.com

"The history of chess can be traced back nearly 1500 years to its earliest known predecessor, called chaturanga, in India; its prehistory is the subject of speculation. From India it spread to Persia. Following the Arab invasion and conquest of Persia, chess was taken up by the Muslim world and subsequently spread to southern Europe. The game evolved roughly into its current form by about 1500 CE."
