Bobby Fischer had the highest peak rating in history and no one ever dominated his peers more than Fischer. Who the greatest of all time is would be subjective.

Bobby Fischer

 #2
Garry Kasparov

What's really amazing is that Fischer was actually rated over 100 points higher than Spassky at the beginning of the 1972 Reykjavik match.

Magnus Carlsen, having a peak rating of 2882, is 1. If Magnus and Bobby played a match right now, Magnus would win (the late Bobby Fischer cant play)

premio53

That's according Chessmetrics. His actual peak rating in 1972 was over 2900.

Bobby Fischer's 20 wins in a row with no draws against world class competition will never be repeated.

There is no “wooly”. Just a man pretending to be a childish cat character.

I say Magnus for real chess, and Hikaru for rapid and blitz

Maybe I'm thinking of Fischer's performance rating. Former chess champion Bobby Fischer had the highest performance rating in chess at 3080, and he cemented this achievement after beating Bent Larsen by a score of 6-nil.

You could argue that Capablanca was worse than Mir Sultan Khan because in both of the games that they played against each other...Mir Sultan Khan won them both. And Mir Sultan Khan didn't even need to castle to win, because his style of chess did not use castling that much. I think one of Mir Sultan Khan's wins was lucky in a way, because Capablanca blundered in one of the games...I think Capablanca took a pawn with his queen, but Capablanca oddly did not realize that Mir Sultan Khan's knight was already guarding that space so Mir Sultan Khan's knight captured the queen. I find it odd how someone as great as Capablanca can make such a huge mistake...but that particular game did happen in a simul anyway, and I understand that simuls can be more mentally tiring than a one-on-one classical game. As for the other game between those two, I think Mir Sultan Khan was definitely the better player out of the two for that game. Capablanca has called Mir Sultan Khan a 'genius' and Capablanca has called Paul Morphy a 'great' chess player. Obviously Capablanca was a great chess player, but I think that he is a bit overrated. Yes, Capablanca may have been very accurate in chess play, but I do not think that Capablanca is the GOAT. Bobby Fischer did say that Capablanca was very good though, and I think Bobby learnt from him and read some of his chess books. Bobby Fischer also said that Morphy is 'the greatest genius of them all' and Bobby Fischer also said that if Morphy came to play in today's era, he would beat everybody. Kasparov said that Paul Morphy is a 'super genius' and Kasparov said that Morphy is the prototype for the modern grandmaster. The great Botvinnink implied heavily, in his opinion, that Morphy is the GOAT. The great Lasker also said that he thinks that Morphy is the GOAT. GM Ben Finegold thinks that Morphy is the GOAT. I personally think that Morphy is the GOAT. I think I would place Bobby Fischer in 2nd place maybe (his 6-0 stuff and his 20 consecutive wins stuff and the way he dominated and how he had a much higher rating than everone else at the time...I think only Morphy had such dominance). I think I would put Magnus Carlsen as 3rd best, because he has also been a great and dominant world champion for a long time now. He has very few weaknesses and Kasparov was lucky to get a draw against the young Magnus because of the time issue...because I think Kasparov was losing if the match went on. In 4th place, I put Kasparov. People argue whether Fischer could've beaten Karpov in the 1975 WC. Some people think that Fischer is actually weaker than Karpov, and that Fischer became a chicken and ran away from Karpov because he thought that he was going to lose to Karpov. However, there are others who say that Fischer could've beaten Karpov because of the high rating difference at the time. I used to think that Karpov could beat Fischer, but maybe Fischer could beat Karpov. Anyway, Morphy is my GOAT and Fischer is in my 2nd place.
